Want to be a travel writer? Move along then. This contest is for travel writers who bristle at the term. Traditional travel writing has never been the Tablet way. As you can see in our magazine, we’ve always valued perspectives that were a little bit different — not better, just different from standard-issue trip diaries and destination overviews.
The Request
We’ve had a lot of writing contests in the past, but we specifically asked that you try to avoid focusing on hotels. Well, the time has come. For this contest, we want to read your histories of, or actual experiences at, hotels in the Tablet selection. It could be a broad look at the entire property and surrounding community or a zoomed-in snapshot of an intimate encounter. All we ask is that it’s interesting.
The Requirements
Send this compelling piece of hotel writing to editors(at)tablethotels(dot)com by January 11, 2026. The subject line should say Write Away Contest and the name of the hotel featured in the story. Inside, include your full name, email address, and location. Please do not exceed 500 words.
The Reward
Our three most favorite authors will have their stories published and will each receive $500 USD in credit to use on Tablet. One Grand Prize winner gets all of that plus an additional $500 payment in cash and our commitment to work with you on future paid collaborations. It could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

The Rules
Please send your submissions to editors(at)tablethotels(dot)com along with your full name, email address, and location. The subject line should say Write Away Contest and include the name of the hotel featured in the story. The hotel must be part of the Tablet selection.
Submissions received after January 11, 2026, or exceeding 500 words, will not be considered. Tablet reserves the right to publish, under the author’s name, any submissions received.
Three winners will each receive $500 USD in credit for booking a hotel stay through Tablet Hotels. Of those, one grand prize winner will also receive a $500 cash payment and an agreement for one or more additional paid writing assignments.
