Southern Spain has some of Europe’s warmest temperatures. In Andalusia, it also has one of the continent\u2019s most fascinating regions \u2014 and lately, most desirable collections of hotels.<\/h4>\n

Andalusia is known for having Europe\u2019s hottest climate, its most southerly ski resort (Sierra Nevada), and its oldest city (Cadiz). It\u2019s the birthplace of Picasso (M\u00e1laga), Garc\u00eda Lorca (Granada), tapas, sherry, flamenco, classical guitar, bullfighting (unfortunately), and a whole bunch of jam\u00f3n ib\u00e9rico. It\u2019s the planet\u2019s largest producer of olive oil. It’s the home of the spaghetti western. And its horse culture is world renowned. <\/p>\n

There are hundreds of miles of coastline and beaches. There are arid deserts and snow-capped mountains. And there is stunning historical architecture, from the mesmerizing designs left behind by eight centuries of Moorish rule (yes, including riads) to the pueblos blancos<\/em>, Andalusia\u2019s iconic whitewashed mountain villages. One thing Andalusia is not known for, perhaps somewhat ironically, is spicy food. Instead, you\u2019ll find an abundance of fresh seafood and refreshingly cold soups like gazpacho and salmorejo. <\/p>\n

Which is all to say, there are a lot great things going on in the eight provinces of this autonomous community in southern Spain (Almer\u00eda,\u00a0C\u00e1diz,\u00a0C\u00f3rdoba,\u00a0Granada,\u00a0Huelva,\u00a0Ja\u00e9n,\u00a0M\u00e1laga, Seville). There are a lot of great hotels, too.
